Another novel is being adapted to film, and it is Rick Yancey's "The 5th Wave" by Sony Pictures. Word is that the studio has already found one of their lead stars in the form of Chloë Grace Moretz.
According to The Wrap, the actress is currently in final negotiations to star in the film adaptation of Rick Yancey's young adult science fiction novel, possibly as Cassiopeia Marie "Cassie" Sullivan, one of the main leads.
"The 5th Wave" follows 16-year-old Cassie Sullivan as she tries to survive in a regressive world devastated by four waves of alien invasion. As one of the last survivors on Earth, Cassie is determined to rescue her baby brother, with whom she was separated after they were evacuated from Camp Ashpit with the other children. During the course of her journey, she meets a mysterious young man who may become her final hope.
The film will be directed by J Blakeson ("The Disappearance Of Alice Creed") from a script by Susannah Grant ("Erin Brockovich").
The rights to the project were acquired by GK Films back in March 2012, when they bought a young adult trilogy from author Yancey whose novel was published in May 2013. Sony is co-financing and distributing.
Aside from "The 5th Wave", Moretz is also starring in another film adaptation of a hit young adult novel, "If I Stay", by Gayle Forman and the hit mystery novel-turned-film, "Dark Places", by Gillian Flynn.
