A peek into Eason Chan’s dark and playful side - March 2014

A Look at Eason Chan’s dark and playful side - March 2014

Eason's LIFE in Singapore 2014 (© MediaCorp)The quirky theatrics and melancholic vibes failed to last for long, but, and the subdued atmosphere lightened up with Eason’s rendition of his fashionable love ballads in the second-0.5 of the concert. When he finally addressed the crowd once more – 21 songs later – the King of Cantopop had quite some (funny) things to say.

Although dripping with sweat and perspiration, Eason was grinning from ear to ear as he thanked fans umpteenth times for his or her “support” and responsiveness. On a high and completely in his component, he was also unusually talkative now around - a stark comparison to his last concert performance in Singapore at Marina Bay Sands last year.

Take, for instance, his cheeky comments on his sweaty shirt when he removed his jacket.

“You know fat folks sweat more, therefore excuse my back (chuckles)… But I’m not fat!” he exclaimed immediately before bursting in to a hearty guffaw. “I’m simply a normal.”
Rattling on about his chatterbox nature, the thirty-nine-year-old singer was even within the mood for a few jokes – giving to hide the extra charges incurred by the “indoor stadium in-exchange for a “colder” performing atmosphere and speaking in several (Tamil and Chinese) accents, much to the amusement of his fans.

Despite his performance of somewhat “gray” and sobering tunes concerning life at the concert, bleak it was not. Eason’s moodier songs were perfectly balanced off by his non-stop cheeky banter and therefore the singer’s unbelievably infectious cheerful mood last night. And while bulk of the songs performed could not belong to his “biggest hits” class and some were – to be honest – unfamiliar, you don’t want to understand it all to appreciate his stories and vocals. Sometimes we tend to will afford to keep things gray and obscure.
